Side effect

I forgot one side effect from the radiation, Wayne keeps having these nightmares of what Christian might be when he grows up.

Update

So I am officially terrible at updating. Wayne only has four days left of radiation and then he will resume a five day treatment of chemo and from there he should be in a clinical trial. At this point he feels great. The radiation treatment makes him tired and so far that has been the only side effect. It has been amazing these last few weeks all the kind phone calls and emails we have received, I am grateful that Wayne has so much support.

It has been one month since the surgery and considering the situation I am at peace. I remind myself daily if not hourly that God is in control. To live in Faith and not Fear. I refuse to live in Fear, that is what satan wants. God is teaching me to live in Faith, to cast my burdens on Him. I am telling you it works, get out your Bible, get on your knees and start praying. Give God a chance he will change you from the inside out. We all are going to face crisis in life. Suffering is unavoidable and inescapable. How will you respond? How do you answer the tough questions, Who is God? What happens when people die ?What is Heaven? There are many different religions and beliefs but only one can be right. They can all be wrong but they all can't be right. The fact is we are all going to die the reality is most people have no idea who God is. Personally I have lived most of my adult life avoiding the tough questions. Never stop asking questions, never stop seeking. My light bulb moment was when what I believed did not corespond to the realities of life. God is love. Jesus suffered so we can live eternally. Even if you don't believe in Jesus that doesn't change the fact that he died for you. That is the most amazing thing about God, he gives you a choice. You can accept him or reject him, but he will never reject you. I might me crazy with all my "God" ramblings but I can tell you Wayne and I are proof that given our current circumstances without God we would have no hope and no future. Our future is in Gods hands. Please continue to pray. God bless you all.

13 more days of radiation

Wayne just finished his 2 day of radiation. So far minimal side effects. Here is a story I would like to share, this is from a very wise woman in my bible study. She has been a very instrumental part of my faith and her pursuit of God never ceases to amaze me.

Last Friday we took a break from painting and cleaning my mother's
house. It was her wish for her 80th birthday to have her bathrooms
and bedrooms painted, and her "stuff" organized. We were working
hard, but all five of us gathered in the living room to pray for her
brother who is in the hospital. I asked everyone if we could also
pray for a friend of mine and her husband with a brain tumor. Several
prayed, but they prayed for "Kimbra's friend" or "her husband." After
we finished praying my mom asked, "What are their names?" I said,
"Wayne and Heather." At that point my mom got very teary eyed and
told us she had been praying for a "Wayne." The Lord had told her to
pray for "Wayne." She had been obediently praying that week, not
knowing who he was and if she would ever know. In this case, she now
knows who she is praying for and will continue to pray.

We have the most amazing Lord, who calls us to prayer. For Wayne, the
Lord placed him upon the heart of an 80 year old prayer warrior. God
will accomplish His will in Wayne's life. Thank you Lord.

Today is June 8 and I am just getting started on this blog. I am posting some emails from the past 2 weeks that will bring everyone up to speed on this crazy life Wayne and I are living. As I re read these emails it seems it happened forever ago. Praise God for all the miracles that have happened since cancer has become a reality in our lives. Do your best, prepare for the worst-then trust God to bring the victory (proverbs 21.31 message bible)
I never thought I would be in this situation, your husband being diagnosed with cancer and a newborn-this only happens on episodes of House, unfortunately I can't take a commercial break. My faith in God ( let me clarify God, I mean God of the bible, not a higher power or a god that each person defines as however they seem fit) has given me the courage to face this head on, I refuse to give into fear which comes from satan, I am going to live in faith which comes from God!!! I love Wayne with all my heart and pray for a miracle. I don't know if God will heal Wayne but I do BELIEVE that God can heal him and that is where my hope is. Hope against all Hope. I am reminded that many people don't know God so I am sure this God talk sounds crazy so if you have another way to deal with life I am all ears. God promises that he is for us not against us, he promises to be strong when we are weak, he promises that all we have to do is believe that Jesus died for our sins, most importantly for me at this point in my life he promises life with him in heaven. You will be shocked by my honesty but if you can handle the truth, please join Wayne and I on this journey and watch how God can work in all situations and thru all things!!!!! I know that God is bigger than cancer and is working in all of our lives, even if you don't believe in God he still believes in you. For those of your praying for us THANK YOU.
Heather Crownover, one of our Romans students, who recently had a son on May
4th, has just learned that her husband Wayne has cancer in his brain and
chest. He is at St.John's hospital and they are going to do a full body
scan to understand more what is going on and what the prognosis is. God can
do all things and we know that NOTHING is impossible with Him. Heather is
asking for BIG prayers and a miracle from God.

On Monday or Tuesday, the doctors will know more. Please keep Heather and
her family in your prayers, for the wisdom of the doctors, for clarity and
proper diagnosis and treatment. She knows that God is fully in control and
is living according to Romans 8:28-30. Wayne is an amazing man, a believer,
and they are trusting God with his future.

Heather said, "For some reason, the sun came up today and I don't know
why...i thought for sure Jesus was coming last night...but He didn't. But
since I didn't put the sun in the sky, I am not going to question God." Her
faith is very strong and she says "It is not about what God is but what
Jesus did, when a priest was giving her some new age counsel.

She knows her God and knows what Jesus has done for her and for Wayne and
their family. She sees the hand of God in her life and trusts Him with her
husband and their future. Jeremiah 29:11

Let’s keep them all lifted up in prayer, Wayne and Heather, his kids, Casey, Jessica, Andrew and Michael (Oaks graduates), Lauren (11th grade at Oaks), Morgan (10 years old at Hillcrest) and Christian, 2 and Cash, 21 days old today.

Wayne Crownover, Heather’s husband, came out of brain surgery yesterday after 6 hours and is doing great. He can talk and move his arms and legs and by all accounts came through beautifully. He was the ONLY surgery for the day….and but for Wayne ’s family, the hospital seemed like a ghost town with everyone gone for Memorial Day weekend. The Crownovers had the waiting room and the hospital and staff all to themselves it was very serene and quiet. Heather told me that Tom Konjoyan referred to it as St. Wayne’s instead of St. John’s Hospital . I got to be there to support her for the day and it was one of the biggest honors of my life. To witness her faith and resolve and trust in God was truly amazing to me.

After Wayne came out of surgery and Heather was able to see him in ICU, she was so pleased to notice his color and how healthy he looked compared to when this journey first began last Friday with severe headaches. There were 2 tumors that Dr. Daniel Kelly removed that were “bleeding” that if not for the surgery, could definitely have resulted in a stroke or worse. So all things considered, it was a successful surgery and they are so grateful for the doctors stepping in and taking care of that immediately. Dr. Kelly is a renowned brain surgeon and head of the department at St. John’s . I couldn’t help but think that when he saw Wayne’s beautiful wife, Heather, and their newborn son, Cash, in her arms, that we wasn’t even more motivated to get this done perfectly and he did. Praise God.

We found out that this cancer is a “secondary” cancer related to the melanoma cancer he had back in 1998 on his arm. After testing for 5 years, it appeared the cancer was gone but seems like the cells can cause damage down the road which they did. He has 10 other small tumors in his brain that are inoperable and also they found cancer in his lungs and abdomen. Heather and Wayne will work with the oncologists and their team to come up with a plan to eradicate the small tumors that are inoperable. And yes, she is praying for a miracle and the hand of God that has covered their lives to bring healing to Wayne . The doctor said, you never know how people will respond to the treatment. “Some do, some don’t!” But we are praying for a miracle!

There are many miracles that have occurred already.

First, that this was diagnosed before anything worse could have happened.

Second, that the removal of the tumors went well. (Dr. Kelly is a one of the best in the country and St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica is the best for hospital for what he has.

Third, that they have the best doctors and the best hospital for treating this type of cancer. Dr. Onid Hamid, who they will be meeting with is also renowned as one of the best oncologists in the world working on Wayne ’s team.

Fourth, that she has a prayer team (YOU) and the covering of support from Christians in all of you, and also the hospital itself. Nurses were even praying with Heather. Praise God.

Fifth, Heather and Wayne ’s FAITH. They know Who is in control and they are trusting Him.

Just like it says in Romans 4:18, “Against all hope, Abraham in HOPE, believed…. And that is what they are doing right now taking one day at a time.

Wayne is in ICU right now and will be for the next day or two and then will be moved to regular room. There is a chance that he could be home as early as Thursday.

I will keep you all updated as I speak with Heather.

Please pray:

  1. that the doctors will come up with an excellent plan to treat and contain this cancer
  2. that Wayne ’s life will be extended according to the will of God
  3. that the Lord will use Wayne ’s experience to bring glory to God and that people touched by this experience will come to Christ (this is one of the things Heather told me this morning)
  4. that He will be pain free (which he is right now because believe it or not, the brain does not have a lot of pain centers even though it is the nerve capital of the body)
  5. that all their financial needs and obligations will be met during this crisis
  6. that Heather and family will continue to look to the Lord to supply all their needs

Love to you all and Praise God for every day the Sun comes up…Life is a miracle!

and we get to climb it together.

Wayne is home from the hospital. Praise God. And in Heather’s own words, “He looks and sounds GREAT.”

When I called Heather, she and Wayne were on their way home from the hospital on Wednesday, the 27th.

He picked up her phone and enthusiastically asked me, “Do you believe in an awesome God…I do!”

Needless to say, he is in God’s hands and He knows WHO is in control and WHO holds his future.

If anyone would like to help out with meals, let me know. I just want to offer any help

we can. Keep the prayers before the throne on his behalf and his family’s.
